Modelling clay is a wonderful medium that gets children to think outside the box and forces them to reconsider everything they think they know about art. With air drying Scolaclay, children can experience the joy of clay anywhere without the need for a kiln to finish their masterpieces!

How to Use Clay
Scolaclay can be moulded, shaped and stretched to resemble anything you like, whether that is your favourite animal, a friend, or a decorative item to take home to your loved ones. This can be achieved by hand, as well as with modelling tools or textured plates to achieve the preferred design, texture or pattern with high accuracy.

Once dry, the insoluble clay can be decorated with almost any type of paint, and coated with PVA for a glossy, professional finish that looks particularly fantastic on ornaments. For best results, clay should be dried slowly to prevent cracking and decrease fragility.

Unhappy with the final piece? Not a problem – just cover with a damp cloth overnight to reconstitute the clay for further improvement!

Beneficial for Children
The freedom, creativity and imagination that clay inspires helps younger children discover their hidden talents, whilst also exploring concepts like hard, soft, wet and dry, and improving hand strength for future pen and pencil use.

For older children tired of drawing, colouring and painting, the fresh, exciting medium of clay also helps spark a whole new interest in art where this has been lost.

Air Drying
Outside of its creative benefits, this clay is also ideal for children in its design. As an air drying clay, Scolaclay incorporates all the qualities of traditional clay but without the need for kiln firing, making it far more accessible for all environments, ages and abilities. This makes working with clay a cheaper, easier, safer and more practical experience that can take place in schools, out of school clubs, and even the home.

Not only are kilns an expensive, specialist piece of equipment, but they are unsafe for children and can present a fire hazard, and can even damage your clay though burning and cracking if not precisely timed. This would devastate young children especially and could even dissuade them from ever sculpting again, so air drying clay is always highly recommended for beginners and casual use – even where is a kiln is available.

Premium, Versatile Option
Although air drying is ideal for children and beginners creating simple designs, it is the more fragile method, and can see offshoots like arms and legs snap off in more complex designs.

However, as a versatile product, Scolaclay can also be used in a kiln to reduce breakages for the more advanced, serious artist undertaking complex work. This makes it ideal in classrooms where many different ages and abilities will be working with clay.

As a premium, leading-brand product, Scolaclay also dries with a low shrinkage rate and adds Nylon fibres for extra strength to your finished model. For maximum satisfaction, look no further than Scolacaly.
