Design
Unlike other book storage solutions, the 4 fixed compartments in this unit create enough space to store larger books vertically. This creates an aesthetic consistent with other book storage nearby, making a space appear neater and more organised. The side-by-side arrangement of the compartments also means they stay within reach of younger children, allowing them to pick up a book of their own accord and develop an interest in reading. Accessibility for children is especially important for larger books, as many storybooks, children’s encyclopaedias and books made for group reading are commonly larger in size. Keeping these within reach for the intended age range also empowers them with the responsibility of finding what they need and tidying up when they are done.
Not only do the compartments allow you to organise big books into genre, subject, fiction or non-fiction, but the unit as a whole prevents the ugly and mismatched horizontal stacking of big books on an inadequately sized bookshelf. In addition to big books, it is possible to safely store posters, cavasses and artwork without folding, making the unit a versatile one in multi-use classrooms. Construction
The unit is constructed using 18mm thick melamine faced chipboard (MFC), a common material in classrooms due to its strength and durability under frequent handling.
